Overview
Mozambique - one of Africa's poorest nations - is home to two Africa Prize laureates: President Joaquim Chissano (1997) and Mrs. Celina Cossa (1998) founder of the General Union of Agricultural Cooperatives (UGC).
In February 2001, The Hunger Project began to work in partnership with the UGC to implement our African Woman Food Farmer Initiative in that country, and at the start of 2006 launched its full epicenter strategy. Click here for a full chronology of reports.

In July 2007, investors from 5 countries joined the Africa Prize laureates and people of Mozambique in inaugurating the country's first epicenter at Chokwe.
