About The Hunger Project - 1991
The Global Hunger Project (hereinafter referred to as "The Hunger Project") is an international, not-for-profit, charitable organization founded in 1977 and committed to the end of the persistence of world hunger by the end of the century.
The Hunger Project is not a relief organization, nor an organization which implements development projects. The Hunger Project is a strategic organization, with the mandate to not duplicate the efforts of other organizations, but rather identify "what is missing" for the end of hunger, and either provide it or ensure that it is provided.
In addition, while recognizing the importance of scientific, technical and financial aspects of the complex challenge of hunger, The Hunger Project focuses its resources and activities exclusively on the "human component" of ending hunger -- on issues of commitment, communication, empowerment and leadership.
The Hunger Project global office also serves as the headquarters for a worldwide network of incorporated Hunger Project chapters in 11 countries and volunteer activities in 20 additional countries worldwide. The Hunger Project is on the roster of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and is a member of the American Council for Voluntary International Action (InterAction).
