World Hunger Day: Let’s Nourish Our World

May 23, 2016

Join The Hunger Project in celebrating World Hunger Day on Saturday, May 28! World Hunger Day aims to raise awareness for the 795 million people globally who are chronically hungry, and to inspire others to be part of the solution to end hunger once and for all.

Hunger and malnutrition are the greatest risks to health worldwide—hunger kills more than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. To highlight the importance of good nutrition, this year World Hunger Day focuses on how the right nutrients and an adequate diet is the cornerstone of good health.

Better nutrition is related to improved infant child and maternal health, stronger immune systems and safer pregnancy and childbirth. People with adequate nutrition are more productive and can create opportunities to break the cycles of poverty and hunger. Experts agree that tackling malnutrition is not only the right thing to do, but it also makes economic sense.

The Hunger Project champions grassroots women-focused strategies to empower communities to end the cycle of malnutrition sustainably. We believe that it is only by coming together, through true collaboration and partnership that entire communities can lift themselves out of hunger and poverty, for good.
