Dr. Robert Fuller, a founder of The Hunger Project, passed away in July 2025 at age 88. He was an unyiedling champion for the end of hunger and leaves a legacy of commitment to creating a world that works for everyone.

Dr. Fuller’s interest in ending hunger began in Calcutta in 1971, where he witnessed the ravages of famine. The trip inspired his advocacy to end world hunger. With the support of the EST Foundation, he produced The Hungry Planet, a film about Professor Roy Prosterman’s work to end hunger through land rights advocacy. This film was instrumental in the creation of The Hunger Project in 1977. Dr. Fuller was also instrumental in selecting our Founding President and CEO, Joan Holmes, having worked with her on a book several years earlier.

Following the creation of The Hunger Project, Dr. Fuller went on to focus on citizen-diplomacy efforts to improve relations between the United States and the Soviet Union and then on the more fundamental issue of campaigning for the human dignity of every person.

Dr. Fuller will be remembered as a passionate advocate for a better world.
