Majete 4 Epicenter

Malawi

Majete 4 Epicenter is located in Malawi, near the Majete Wildlife Reserve. Historically, these communities depended on the reserve’s wildlife and natural resources, engaging in activities such as hunting and tree cutting for charcoal production and other economic purposes. We have been working with the communities near the reserve to reframe their mindset about the resource, create alternative livelihoods and build long-term resilience. We are leveraging the favorable climate for resilient crops like sorghum, millet, maize, sesame and cotton, as well as supporting livestock development for goats and cattle. Crucially, our efforts are focused on completing the requirements for legal recognition to ensure the long-term sustainability and operational independence of the epicenter.

Our work in Malawi is transforming lives. In a 2024 survey, 98% of our community partners reported that their quality of life has improved since engaging with The Hunger Project.
