Machakel Epicenter

Machakel Epicenter, located in Ethiopia, began its partnership with The Hunger Project in 2007 and reached self-reliance in 2019. Serving 32 villages and more than 12,000 people, the community has built a strong foundation in health, education and food security. At Machakel, 100% of smallholder farmers now use improved farm management practices, and every household reports increased security. With community members now confident in their ability to create change, Machakel stands as a model of community-led development in Ethiopia.

Our work in Ethiopia is transforming lives. In a recent report, 92% of children aged 4-18 were attending school in this region.
