Karnataka

Karnataka is a state located in southwest India. We started working there in 2001. In Karnataka, we have facilitated a federation with exclusive membership of gram panchayat Elected Women Representatives called SUGRAMA. The federation creates a support system where women can collaborate and collectively address local issues. Their advocacy has secured safer school infrastructure, public transport and improved access to government services.

Our work in India is transforming lives. In a 2024 survey, 97% of the elected women we work with reported increased influence in their communities after engaging with The Hunger Project.
