Bihar

India

Bihar, a state located in eastern India, began its journey with The Hunger Project in 2001. Since 2016, our work in Bihar has enabled us to facilitate leadership workshops, life skills training and peer collectives that engage adolescent girls. This work is crucial for addressing deep-seated gender and social codes that disproportionately affect girls from realizing their true potential. As a result, they have been able to influence decisions around delaying marriage, fight for their safety against violence, and continue their education.

Our work in India is transforming lives. In a 2024 survey, 97% of the elected women we work with reported increased influence in their communities after engaging with The Hunger Project.
