BIO

Prashanta Tripura is the Interim Country Director of The Hunger Project-Bangladesh. Before taking on this leadership role, he was serving as the Project Director of the Multi-stakeholder Initiative for Peace and Stability for THP.

Born and brought up as a member of the Tripura ethnic group in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh, Prashanta has been keenly interested in gaining a deeper understanding of ethnic and cultural diversity, social inequality, and conflict from an early age. This interest, along with a passion for ending hunger and poverty, led him first to academia and then on to development.

After teaching at the Department of Anthropology of Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka for ten years, Prashanta was selected to be CARE Bangladesh’s first regional Program Coordinator in 2001. In 2009, he took on a senior management position with UNDP’s Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility for three years. Since leaving UNDP, Prashanta has taken on roles with BRAC University and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), HELVETAS, and several consultancies.

Prashanta has a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Brandeis University. He currently lives in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
