Communications Officer, Africa Region

BIO

Afia Darteh is a passionate and dedicated professional who joined The Hunger Project on May 1, 2023, as Communications Officer for the Africa Region. Afia plays a vital role in driving effective communications strategies to amplify the organization’s mission and create meaningful impact in Africa.

Prior to joining The Hunger Project, Afia worked with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Catholic Migration Commission’s Global Forum on Migration and Development, The Africa Progress Panel Foundation, Africa Chamber for Youth Development and the National Schools Inspectorate Authority in Ghana. She has spearheaded communication campaigns, built strong media partnerships and effectively communicated complex issues to diverse audiences. Her collaborative approach and ability to develop compelling narratives resulted in increased public awareness, donor engagement and policy influence in the organizations she served.

As the Communications Officer for the Africa region, she works with a dynamic team in implementing comprehensive communication strategies that highlights the organizations achievements, challenges and innovative solutions; working closely with local partners, communities and local governments to amplify voices, share success stories and advocate for sustainable policies that address hunger and poverty.

Afia holds a Master’s in international Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland and a Bachelors in Sociology from the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana. She is an advocate for continuous learning and stays updated with latest trends and best practices in the field of communication and development.
