THP-Ghana Grows as New Epicenter Opens and Old Epicenter Expands

THP-Ghana successfully inaugurated Fesi Bame Epicenter, underwritten by investors in Australia, on the 27th of July 2012, with the support of Kpando Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Francis Ganyaglo and then Country Director of THP-Ghana, Dr. Naana Agyemang-Mensah. Present at the ceremony were the Municipal Heads of Education, Health, Social Welfare and Community Development; Chiefs and Queen Mothers of the epicenter communities; and other opinion leaders. In addition to this epicenter inauguration, THP-Ghana was able to complete the construction of a community nursery school in Toku Epicenter.

Accomplishments

  • School building Construction. The Dogo Nursery School Project in Toku Epicenter is completed and will be commissioned in February 2013. Another three-classroom project, also being undertaken by the Dogo community, has reached lintel level – the top of windows and doors level of a building.
  • Health & Nutrition.Taido and Asafora Epicenters organized child welfare clinics, which trained the parents of 293 babies (124 males and 169 females). One hundred and fifty eight children (65 males and 93 females) were also immunized against childhood killer diseases like polio, hemophilic influenza, tetanus, measles and diphtheria. In all, a total of 7,162 weighing and 3,174 immunization attendances were recorded during the period in five functioning child welfare epicenter clinics. The epicenter clinics provided antenatal services and recorded 362 visits by pregnant women. The nursery school feeding program continued to be implemented in the four THP-supported schools where 450 children benefited.
