A Review: The 12th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, Part 2 – Rachel Rubenstein

May 16, 2012

Rachel R edit (1)In April 2012, Nobel Peace Prize Laureates from around the world gathered in Chicago for the first ever US-hosted World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates to discuss pressing issues and share wisdom with students, youth and professionals. The Hunger Project sent a delegation of five professionals to the Summit who will share their experiences here on the blog. Our first review comes from Feel Good Changemaker Ignitor, Rachel Rubenstein!

“The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was an experience I will carry with me forever. I feel eternally grateful for the opportunity to participate in the summit, to be a part of the first ever youth delegation, and to listen to people like Gorbachev, the Dalai Lama, Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi…the list goes on.

As a young person myself and as a Changemaker Ignitor with FeelGood, I was particularly excited and motivated by the summit’s focus on youth. To hear everyone speak passionately about the role young people must play in creating positive social change in our world was particularly gratifying. Each day we spent some time together as a youth delegation. I felt even more inspired by hearing the dreams, passions, and plans of each person in our youth delegation.

Lastly, I am happy to say that it is clear the work of The Hunger Project is very much aligned with what was at the root of the weekend: we all have the power to speak out and speak up for freedom and rights. I consistently heard speakers talk of the importance of gender equality, our interconnected world, empowerment, and grassroots self-reliance.

Thank you THP for giving me the opportunity to represent FeelGood and The Hunger Project at the 12th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.”

Thank YOU, Rachel!
