Last week, April 23-25, Nobel Peace Prize Laureates from around the world gathered in Chicago for the first ever US-hosted World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates to discuss pressing issues and share their wisdom with students, youth and professionals. The Hunger Project sent a delegation of five professionals to the Summit who will share their experiences here on the blog in the coming weeks.
First up, meet our delegation!
Amanda Arch graduated from the University of Washington Foster School of Business in June 2010 with concentrations in Accounting and International Business. Originally from Urbana, IL she has also spent two semesters living abroad in Granada, Spain and Muscat, Oman. Upon graduation she began working for Microsoft in their Finance Rotation Program. Working in the tech industry Amanda has become passionate about finding innovative solutions to the world’s challenges. Read about Amanda’s Summit experience!
Joanna Bichsel thinks we all should be change agents driving towards a more positive, empowering world. Joanna was born in Poland, grew up in Canada and now lives in Seattle with her husband Christoph, their young son Noah and their Search and Rescue dog Spartacus. Joanna is a technologist and intrepreneur who has spent the last 10 years at Microsoft and now leads the US enterprise business for Office 365, a new and revolutionary Cloud service. Allison Bottomley has been with The Hunger Project for almost a year. In her role as Chair of the Young Professionals Committee, she has led advocacy and fundraising events for World Food Day, International Women’s Day, and in some cases, just because a weekend needed it. Originally from El Paso, Texas, her passion for helping people end their own hunger and poverty came from the deep need in the community where she grew up. She continues her mission to help others through her volunteer work the Tribal Link Foundation and New York’s Emergency Shelter Network.
Rachel Rubenstein graduated in May 2010 with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in Psychology and History and has worked as a Changemaker Ignitor with THP’s partner organization, FeelGood, since March 2011. In her role as Changemaker Ignitor she works directly with FeelGood student leaders to support them in unleashing the full potential of their FeelGood chapter. Rachel first learned about the work of The Hunger Project and FeelGood as a student at the University of Vermont (UVM) where she played an active role in their FeelGood chapter. During her time as a student she studied abroad with Semester at Sea and participated in a THP investor trip to Chiapas, Mexico. Read Rachel’s review of the Summit!
Sara D. Wilson holds a B.A. in International Conflict Analysis and Resolution with a concentration in Gender Studies from George Mason University and has worked as Communications and New Media Officer for The Hunger Project since October 2010. Prior to joining THP, Sara held various positions in the field of international education, traveling throughout Thailand, India and the United Arab Emirates with organizations such as Anuban Khon Kaen, the Institute for International Education at the UN, George Mason University International Admissions and a New York-based award-winning multimedia organization aimed at promoting global education.
