BIO

Suna Karakas joined the German office of the Hunger Project in June 2020 as a Co-Country Director.  Over the last 10 years she worked for the World Bank, UNICEF, and several NGOs in the international development field on projects in Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Her core expertise includes community engagement, good governance and social inclusion of gender, migrants and other vulnerable groups. Most recently she led the Beirut und Munich offices as the Head of Office of a German NGO, where she focused on advancing humanitarian and development efforts for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. She also has 5 years of working experience in the private sector. Suna has an academic background in international economics, business and development policy analysis with a Masters Degree in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University (SAIS).
