Demekech joined The Hunger Project Ethiopia in 2016 at the capacity of Food Security Officer. Her roles at the time were introduction and promotion of improved agricultural technologies, facilitating of Income Generating Activities (IGA) development as alternative sources of income for smallholder farmers, establishment of value chains, promotion of crop diversification, tree planting, supply of inputs and agricultural loans, organization and facilitation of training sessions for communities, and construction of water schemes. These interventions contributed to increased agricultural production, increased household income, risk reduction for smallholder farmers, environmental protection, reduction of water born disease, and climate resilience building.
At present, she is serving THP-E at the capacity of Program Manager. Her tasks mainly include developing new projects and raising funds to accomplish the mission of the organization, providing technical guidance of program/project implementation, developing budget, operating plan and reports for the program, establish and strengthen relationship with signatories, and monitoring and evaluation of projects. She is working towards quality implementation of projects, smooth relationship with government entities, efficient utilization of project resources to ensure the reduction of hunger and poverty in the communities THP-E is serving.
She worked for the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute (EIAR), the local NGO known as Agriservice Ethiopia, and another local NGO known as Dream Ethiopia before joining THP.
