We are one: Highlights from our 2021 Fall Event

Embracing our interconnectedness.

On October 16, 2021, Hunger Project activists, investors and staff came together to celebrate our collective unity, interconnectedness and compassion at our 2021 Fall Event, held in a hybrid virtual and in-person format for the first time.

In her welcoming address, Sheree Stomberg, Chair of Global Board of Directors, spoke of the value of building upon our principles considered fundamental to ending hunger: human dignity, social transformation, gender equality and transformative leadership. Sharing a powerful story of women’s empowerment that she witnessed during a visit to Pune, India, Stomberg highlighted the role of sustainable, grassroot and women-centered strategies in ending hunger.

President and CEO, Tim Prewitt shared the common goal of the evening: “We are here because we want every individual to have enough to eat, so they can lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Today, on the planet, we have enough food to feed everyone. No one needs to go hungry, so why is that happening? What’s missing? For us at The Hunger Project, we believe it’s a mindset of equity, interconnectedness and collaboration. It recognizes that we live in a world where all of us are profoundly connected. It’s a world view that recognizes we are one humanity.”

During the evening, several leaders from our Program Country teams joined virtually for an in-depth panel discussion, bringing the collective vision of oneness to life. All the stories shared had a common theme of transformation, joy, courage, self-reliance and dignity.

Montserrat Salazar Gamboa, Country Director of The Hunger Project-Mexico, shared the power of interconnectedness during the pandemic:

“We stepped up to respond in these critical moments – it is clear that we are all in this together. I have your life in my hands and you have mine in yours. Everywhere we are one.

As global citizens, courageously committed to the end of hunger, we invited attendees to see what’s possible through participation in The Hunger Project. The world around us is ever evolving and we ask for bold commitment to ensuring every woman, man and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.
