Villagers and local government officials inaugurate Tokome epicenter

On Wednesday, June 27, Dr. Fitigu Tadesse, The Hunger Project vice president for Africa programs, presided over the inauguration of Tokome epicenter in Ghana. Tokome epicenter is located 121.6 kilometers northeast of Accra in the Kpando District of the Volta Region and is comprised of 11 villages. It is the sixth epicenter in Ghana to have a fully-constructed L-shaped building.

Approximately 1,500 people were present for the inauguration, including village chiefs and local government officials, represented by the Kpando District Chief Executive, the Chief Executive of neighboring Tsate District, and Kpando District heads of departments (health, agriculture, etc.). The Hunger Project-Ghana was represented by country director Dr. Naana Agyemeng-Mensah, the program officer, the AWFFI project officer, and local project officers. Dr. Fitigu Tadesse represented the Global Office.
In their speeches at the inauguration ceremony, both of the District Chief Executives thanked The Hunger Project for working in close partnership with the people of Tokome epicenter and expressed their readiness to collaborate with the Epicenter Committee and the community. They pledged to provide material support so that the epicenter building would be fully functioning. In particular, the local government committed itself to providing electricity and water to the epicenter and to provide additional beds and a gas-powered refrigerator for the health center.
