National Girl Child Day in Bangladesh is an annual event dedicated to ending all forms of discrimination against girls. The Hunger Project successfully called for the declaration of this day in 2000, and catalyzed the creation of a "Girl Child Advocacy Forum" of more than 50 leading organizations. Each year, the scale of this celebration has doubled - from 50 events in 2000, to 100 in 2001 and 200 in 2002. This year, preliminary results indicate Hunger Project animators organized more than 500 Girl Child Day events across the country and our NGO partners organized 300 more.
